Walk across the Downs to the west of Elham leading to the Hawthorne WW1 Trenches (as used by TV Film makers) where there will be a guided tour of carefully designed and constructed replicas of British and German WW1 trenches. The attention to detail is impressive and you will leave with a better understanding of life at the battle front.

No dogs allowed. Hawthorne Trenches subject to an entry charge of £6.00 payable on the day. Please bring cash with you.

This undemanding and picturesque walk to the north-west of the village takes in the valleys, pastures, woodland and chalk downs of the area. Bluebells, wild garlic and in the Park Gate Down area, orchids and other plants may be in flower.


10:  A KINGSTON CIRCULAR RAMBLE

10:00am. Meet Michael Wilkey outside the Black Robin Pub, Kingston CT4 6HS

Starting at the Black Robin (parking in the field opposite the pub) and climbing toward the footbridge over the A2, joining the North Downs Way and returning via Bridge, Bishopsbourne and Kingston along the Elham Valley Way. 11:  ELHAM STRIDE OUT

12.0 miles        5.5 hours        strenuous        circular

10:15am. Meet Andrew Swarbrick in The Square, Elham CT4 6TJ

This longer walk from Elham climbs out of the Valley across arable down-lands and along little used sunken lanes and bridleways which are a feature of this part of East Kent. The walk leads us to a point where we can enjoy a spectacular view of Folkestone, the Channel and possibly France. We will stop for lunch before completing this circular walk by following the Elham Valley Way back to the village. Bring a packed lunch.


12:  FOREST FUN FOR CHILDREN

2:00pm. Meet Peter Corkill in The Square, Elham CT4 6TJ

Children and adults can search along local footpaths for images of well-known local wildlife on their way to Tye Woods. Once in the woods parents can relax as Tom Humphreys of Primary Sports Giants provides fun forest activities for the children to enjoy before their downhill walk back to Elham.
